Residents in the Akatsi South District in the Volta Region have raised GHS 18,000 to secure hospital bills of a 10-year old boy, Ernest Adabla who was hit by a commercial driver on the Accra Aflao highway in Akatsi Totome Fiator on Sunday, 14, March 2021.
The accident, according to residents was caused by the unavailability of speed ramps on that portion of the road, they later staged a two-day demonstration by blocking the road and demanded construction of ramps on the road after which the Assembly provided a temporary solution to the plea of the angry residents.
Ernest was later diagnosed at the Ho Teaching Hospital and needed Ghc 18,000 for surgery of the knees and replacement of his legs, his guardians later appealed for the fund via a local radio station in Akatsi, Kaleawo Fm.
Earlier yesterday, the leadership of the FM station together with traditional leaders from Avenor Traditional Council represented the cash of Ghc18,000 after raising the fund within three weeks.
The station manager of Kaleawo FM Mr. Raphael Bedzo has said, it is their prayer that Ernest will come back stronger and healthier to fulfill his divine dream.
He appealed to all drivers to take the safety of the road users into consideration whiles they drive.
He also called on the leadership of Akatsi district to as a matter of urgency work on the said incident prune part of the road.
The Assemblyman for the area Mr. Edward Doe Adade speaking to the media called on all sundry to put heads together to work on the speed ramps.
